Craft Beer Spotlight: The BeerHive
The BeerHive, located in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District, is proud to provide a wide variety of the country’s best craft beers, including many locally brewed specialties. Owned by brothers John Patterson, Will Patterson, and Joe Robl, The BeerHive has been in operation since May 2011. They always liked to hang out and drink beers so they decided to quit their day jobs and open a bar. Kassie Robl manages the bar and curates the entire beer selection consisting of about 200 cans/bottles and 16 rotating drafts. The family-owned and operated BeerHive serves as the neighborhood bar and restaurant to Pittsburgh’s market district and to travelers from around the globe.
Aside from beer, The BeerHive has become quite popular for those looking for good, homemade bar food. The sauces are made in-house, the fries are cut fresh daily, the chicken breaded to order, and the burgers never see a freezer. They started making their own pickles for fried pickles and the customers went wild! Fast forward to 2014…the brothers founded the Pittsburgh Pickle Company. You can find their jars of pickles in over 100 local grocery stores and markets, as well as behind the bar at The BeerHive. Their newest product is a take on classic bloody mary mix. Briney Mary is infused with Pgh. Pickle Co. pickle brine and recently won the People’s Choice Award at the first annual Bloody’s and Brunch bloody mary competition. Look for the product on store shelves in the very near future.
Neshaminy Creek is constantly on tap and available at the BeerHive, and have collaborated for multiple events with them before, and have many planned for the future!
