Craft Beer Spotlight: Merchant Oyster Co.
Merchant Oyster Company, located in Pittsburgh, PA is one of the newest spots in the borough of Lawrenceville. Dennis Marron, the owner of both Merchant and Or, The Whale (also located in Pittsburgh) grew up on the shore in New Jersey and he always had the dream of owning his very own oyster house where he could hang out, drink beer, and eat oysters… And that’s exactly what he does!
The menu has many things other than oysters such as a giant crab cake, peel and eat shrimp, clam stuffies, and even a foot long hot dog loaded with onions, relish, ketchup, and mustard. The staff at Merchant will tell you it is easily one of the best hot dogs in the city and the customers agree. Aside from great food, they also have great beers and cocktails. The “Admiral of Beverage” Nick Foust has 4 beer taps, 2 of which are always local offerings, 4 wines on taps, a small by the glass wine list, and the much needed Veuve Cliquot and Dom Perignon. In addition, his beer list contains anywhere from 20-25 bottles/cans and he always has NCBC somewhere on his list, currently Shape of Hops to Come in cans (they have featured Churchville Lager cans and Ecomis draft in the past).
