Craft Beer Spotlight: Mike’s Tavern
If there’s a bar in Reading Pennsylvania that will make you feel like you are on the classic TV show “Cheers,” this is it. Mike’s Tavern is located in the northwest corner of the city and is a short walk from First Energy Stadium, making it a great place to stop before or after a game. It’s the cities unassuming and unabashed hidden gem.
The man behind it all is Pete Cammarano, owner, and frequent bartender. Pete has been a part of the Reading bar scene for over two decades, a legend in the game, and one of the greatest bartenders in the business. He’s quick with a joke or irreverent story and sure to make you feel right at home. Mike’s Tavern has a genuinely unique personality that resonates throughout the decor of vintage beer paraphernalia, old photos, and quirky local art. The crowd also mirrors the bar’s spirit, an eclectic group of warm and inviting regulars that are always willing to share in conversation over a pint.
Mike’s Tavern runs four draft lines and an impressive cooler loaded full of tasty craft beer favorites. While you might think having only four draft lines would be a deterrent for the craft beer fan, you’ll quickly find that all 4 lines are “craft” and the lineup changes with rapid frequency. It’s beauty in simplicity and allows you to truly enjoy your drinking experience, without having to sacrifice your taste buds or worry about dauntingly long draft lists. If that’s not enough to draw you in, Mike’s Tavern hosts feel good, live music every Friday and Saturday night, a sure-fire recipe for a great night out.
Neshaminy Creek beers are a common draft feature at Mike’s Tavern, so much so, that Pete has dubbed us “Neshaminy CRACK,” citing the addictive nature of our beers. Stop in soon as they’ll be running a healthy dose of “This Is Not The New Neshaminy Creek IPA,” our New England style interpretation of our flagship County Line IPA.
Mike’s Tavern is the bar you wish you had right around the corner! It’s the perfect watering hole with a great atmosphere, awesome staff, and regular live music. Mike’s is open from 3pm to 12pm Monday through Saturday. Do yourself a favor, put your cell phone away, pull up a bar stool, talk to a stranger, and drink a few pints at Mike’s Tavern!
