Craft Beer Spotlight: Falls Taproom
Established in 2009, Falls Taproom in East Falls has been a local craft beer destination for almost a decade. Located in the hub of East Falls, at 3749 Midvale Avenue, it was the first in many restaurant endeavors from Marvin and Jessica Graaf.
The vision of Falls Taproom has always been to offer amazing craft beer on a generous spectrum of styles and preferences. They want to appeal to everyone from the guest who is just getting into craft beer to the experienced drinker. From favorited local breweries, such as Neshaminy Creek Brewing, to exotic sours, ciders and Belgians from around the world such as Fantome, Etienne Dupont and St. Bernardus. The food menu could best be described as “Elevated Pub Fare”.
The name, Falls Taproom, is pretty simple. They are a beer-focused bar with over 20 rotating craft beers on draft and an eclectic bottle selection. Although they also offer a full cocktail program, their pride and heart are within the craft beer game. Co-owner, Marvin Graaf, was first on the scene in East Falls to offer a beer selection that has proven to be adventurous, inviting and unique.
Although the food menu changes seasonally to accommodate fresh, local ingredients, there are a few items that are tried and true which make their way into every edition of the menu such as: smoked gouda and bacon mac n’ cheese, buttermilk fried chicken sandwich topped with kale, honey and Tabasco mayo and the Taproom Burger which features house-made red onion jam, bacon and yellow sharp cheddar cheese. All food items are made from scratch, in-house, including their famous pierogies, which have been a local favorite since opening day.
Falls Taproom is and continues to be a destination for many families and individuals in the community. Customers flock to the restaurant for Happy Hour, which runs Monday-Friday from 5-7. They feature $4 Neshaminy Creek drafts, $5 Old Fashioned cocktails and $5 wine by the glass. Sunday is half-price burger night and Monday nights they offer mussels dishes at half-price. Many people also enjoy the open mic nights, which brings in talented local artists every Tuesday evening.
