Craft Beer Spotlight: Omni Bedford Springs Resort
When it comes to resorts where you can enjoy fine craft beer, there can’t be many that exist with a more distinguished history than Bedford Springs. This is the crown jewel of Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
Located just a few miles from the historic Old Bedford Village (1758), the hotel and resort sit on the original grounds purchased by Dr. John Anderson in 1796. The area’s original draw and claim to fame are the rich mineral springs in the area. Tuscarora, Iroquois, and Shawnee Native American tribes used to powwow in the region. Native American tribes often calling them the “Medicine Spring.” Word would soon spread and various prominent figures in U.S. history would visit, including George Washington (1794).
The first hotel was built on the property in 1804 and contained 24 rooms. Throughout the last two centuries, the hotel has grown to the size of 216 guest rooms. One of the earliest indoor pools ever built in the United States was constructed in 1905. To this very day, the original pool is being used by hotel guests.
Throughout the history of the resort, and original grounds, countless political dignitaries have stayed at the hotel or visited the property. Some of those include presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Buchanan, Dwight E. Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, and others. Other notable individuals being Daniel Webster, Henry Clay, and Aaron Burr.
After a complete restoration in the early 2000’s, Omni Hotels purchased the property and took over management in 2009.
